Sashiko is the traditional Japanese art of visible mending. Instead of hiding rips, tears and marks of wear, this tradition celebrates the story and life of each piece of clothing with simple stitch patterns .
As more and more people are trying to reduce their carbon footprint, the environmental benefits of 'slow conscious fashion' and repairing clothes with Sashiko Stitching is becoming popular.
Oxfam have stated that it can take "an estimated 20,000 litres of water to manufacture just one pair of jeans and one t-shirt". This would take one person more than 13 years to drink this amount of water!
Come along and learn how to repair, patch and decorate your well-worn clothes instead of replacing them straight away.
