Join me for an enjoyable and relaxing evening of slow-stitching and Prosecco!

Learn how to repair, patch and decorate your loved and well-worn clothes with simple Japanese Sashiko stitching.

£5.00 from each ticket sale will be passed on to the WWF

Sashiko is the traditional Japanese art of visible mending.  Instead of hiding rips, tears and marks of wear, this tradition celebrates the story and life of each piece of clothing with simple stitch patterns .

As more and more people are trying to reduce their carbon footprint, the environmental benefits of 'slow conscious fashion' and repairing clothes with Sashiko Stitching is becoming popular.

Oxfam have stated that it can take "an estimated 20,000 litres of water to manufacture just one pair of jeans and one t-shirt".  This would take one person more than 13 years to drink this amount of water!

Come along and learn how to repair, patch and decorate your well-worn clothes instead of replacing them straight away.

These workshops will be held upstairs in the function room at The Plough in Witney Oxfordshire.

What can I expect from this session?

You will have the opportunity to explore, sew and understand how to patch and decorate your clothes with a variety of Sashiko stitches and patterns.

Will there be lots of inspiration to help me?

There will be lots of images and examples of Japanese Sashiko stitching... so you are sure to be inspired!  There will also be some fabric swatches/mending examples for you to examine.  These evenings are also a great opportunity to be inspired by what other people are working on around the table.

What do I need to bring?

This session will concentrate on repairing denim clothes.
You are welcome to bring along your denim jeans or any other garments for advice, help, and inspiration to get you started.
If you don't have anything to repair right now, don't worry as there will be fabric swatches for you work on.

Are there any materials available on the day?

A selection of denim fabric swatchessewing threads, sewing needles, and pins will be available to use.  If you use a thimble do bring your own.

A variety of Sashiko decorative pattern templates will also be available for you to transfer onto your fabrics.

Do I need advanced sewing skills?
No. This session is for everybody to explore stitching and repairing.  If you are new to sewing you can easily achieve exciting Sashiko decorative mending with simple lines of running stitch.
